Shatki ( Russian Шатки́ ) is an urban-type settlement in the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast in Russia with 9,652 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The place is about 130 km as the crow flies south of the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Administrative Center . It is located on the left bank of the right tributary of the Oka, the Tjoscha .
Schatki is the administrative center of the Rajons Schatkowski and seat of the municipality (gorodskoje posselenije) Rabotchi Possjolok Schatki, also (3 km southwest of the town center) is one of the settlement Pokrovka.
history
The place has been known since 1583 when it was named as Shatkowskije Vorota in connection with one of the Russian Verhaulinien lines . As a result, it developed into a larger village with importance for regional trade.
On June 10, 1929, Schatki became the administrative seat of the newly created Rajons named after him. On March 7, 1962, it received urban-type settlement status.

Shatki has a station at kilometer 198 of the 1901 railway line ( Rusajewka -) Krasny Usel - Arsamas - Nizhny Novgorod . There, a branch line opened in 1964 branches off to the small town of Pervomaisk, 40 km southwest (55 km by rail, with a connection to the closed city of Sarov ).
The federal trunk road R158 Nizhny Novgorod - Saransk - Penza - Saratov runs through the settlement .
