Pavlovo ( Russian Павлово ) is a city in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast ( Russia ) with 60,698 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located in central Russia, about 80 km southwest of the oblast capital Nizhny Novgorod on the right bank of the Oka , a right tributary of the Volga .
Pavlovo is the administrative center of the Rajon of the same name .
The city is connected to Nizhny Novgorod by a railway line ( Metallist station ).
history
Pavlovo has been known as a village belonging to the Russian tsar since the 17th century (also called Pavlov Ostrog ). In the 18th century it became a rich artisan and trading settlement. In 1919 the place received city rights.

Culture and sights
Several churches from the 18th century have been preserved in Pavlovo, such as the Church of the Resurrection ( Voskressensky Church ) from 1778 and the Ascension Church ( Vosnesensky Church ) from 1795, as well as a number of villas (for example that of the merchant W. Gomolin and the manufacturer Terebin), administrative buildings and wooden houses from the 19th century. There is a local and a history museum.
A local curiosity is the cultivation of (edible) indoor lemons , which has been practiced since around 1860. The number of trees is said to be in the tens of thousands today. A sculpture placed in the city center refers to these famous Pavlovsk lemons .
economy
The most important company in the city is Pavlovsky Avtobusny Sawod , which has been producing since 1932 . There are also other metal processing companies, equipment manufacturers and the food industry.
