history
In connection with the construction of the dam and the hydroelectric power station of the Gorkier reservoir on the Volga, the village of Pestowo on the right (western) bank of the river became one of the construction workers' settlements from 1948. Since it was located on the other bank of the river behind the Volga from the perspective of the old town of Gorodets (Russian sa Volgoi ), it was named Savolschje , although otherwise the area to the left, i.e. east of the Volga, is referred to as Savolschje , (land) behind the Volga .
From 1950, which is also the year of foundation, the place had the status of an urban-type settlement ; In 1964 city rights were granted.
