Watscha ( Russian Ва́ча ) is an urban-type settlement in the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast in Russia with 5987 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The place is about 100 km as the crow flies southwest of the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Administrative Center on the river Watschka, which flows in via Malaya Kutra and Bolshaya Kutra Oka , which marks the border with Vladimir Oblast almost 20 km northwest .

Watscha is the administrative center of the Watschski Rajons and the seat of the municipality (gorodskoje posselenije) Rabotschi possjolok Watscha, which also includes the villages of Popowka (2 km northwest) and Popyschowo (3 km southwest).

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1588. As a result he belonged to the Ujesd Murom of the Vladimir governorate .

On June 30, 1929 Watscha became the administrative seat of a newly created Rajons named after him. In 1938 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement.

A few kilometers northwest of Watscha the regional road 22K-0125 runs from Nizhny Novgorod via Pavlovo to 22K-0079 not far from the border with Vladimir Oblast between the cities of Navaschino and Murom. The short 22K-0034 leads from the street to the town. The closest railway station, Metallist, is located in Pavlovo about 25 km to the northeast , the end of a line from Nizhny Novgorod.
