Vladimir Governorate
The Vladimir Governorate ( Russian Владимирская губерния / Wladimirskaja gubernija) was an administrative unit of the Russian Empire and the Russian SFSR , located in the center of European Russia. It existed from 1796 to 1929. The capital was Vladimir . The governorate bordered in the north, starting clockwise, with the governorates of Yaroslavl , Kostroma , Nizhny Novgorod , Tambov , Ryazan , Moscow and Tver .
history
The governorate was formed in 1796 from the governor of Vladimir . The Vladimir Governorate existed until 1929 as part of the Russian SFSR of the Soviet Union . After the dissolution, its territory was added to the new administrative units of Industrial Oblast Ivanovo and Nizhny Novgorod .
scope
The first Russian census in 1897 counted 1,515,691 inhabitants (31 / km²) on 42,831 square meters (= 48,856 km²). The population was over 99% Russians. Approx. 12% lived in cities. The capital, Vladimir, had 28,479 inhabitants.
In 1926 the governorate covered 33,023 km² with 1,321,140 inhabitants (40 / km²).
