Perewos ( Russian Перевоз ) is a small town in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast ( Russia ) with 9201 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located about 100 km southeast of the oblast capital Nizhny Novgorod on the Pjana , a left tributary of the Sura, which flows into the Volga .
Perewos is the administrative center of the Rajon of the same name .
history
A village in the place of today's city has been known since the 14th century.
In 1779 the place received the city charter as the administrative center of a district ( Ujesds ) of the governorship of Nizhny Novgorod under the name Pjanski Perewos , but lost the administrative function again in 1798. The name roughly means transition over the Pjana .
The main occupation of the population in the 19th century was farming and making nets for fishing, mainly on the Caspian Sea .
Before 1926, the place lost its town charter due to the low population and was now considered a village settlement under the abbreviated, current name. In 1962 the place was given the status of an urban-type settlement and on January 15, 2001 renewed town charter.

One of the scenic attractions is the Itschalkowski Bor forest massif with pine, oak and mixed forests as well as limestone cliffs in a karst area .
Economy and Infrastructure
There are textile, electrotechnical and food industries in Perewos.
In stud Perewosski be trotting breeds Russian Trotter and increasingly standardbred bred, besides also cold-blooded racial Soviet Heavy Draft .
The city lies on the railway line Moscow - Arsamas - Kazan, opened on this section in 1918 ( Perevosskaya station ; line kilometers 460).
