Volodarsk ( Russian Володарск ) is a city in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast ( Russia ) with 9,928 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

Volodarsk

The city is located about 50 km west of the oblast capital Nizhny Novgorod on the Seima and Saton rivers, not far from their confluence with the Oka , a left tributary of the Volga .

Volodarsk is the administrative center of the raion of the same name .

history

The village of Seima on the river of the same name was first mentioned in the 15th century. The name is probably of Finno-Ugric origin (see Saimaa Lake in Finland ).

A former Vorwerk this village, Olgino , was established in 1920 in honor of the revolutionary W. Volodarsky in Wolodary renamed. In 1932 this place received the status of an urban-type settlement ; the old village of Seima and a few others were incorporated.

In 1956 the town charter was granted under its current name.

Economy and Infrastructure

In Volodarsk, as the center of an agricultural region, there are predominantly food industry companies.

The city is located on the Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod railway line, opened in 1862 ( Seima station ; route km 390), on which a large part of the Trans-Siberian Railway's western part now runs from Moscow.

The trunk road M7 Moscow-Nizhny Novgorod- Kazan - Ufa (part of the European route 22 ) leads north past the city.
