Nikolaikirche

The Protestant Nikolaikirche is a listed building monument in Lauchhammer-Mitte in the list of monuments of the state of Brandenburg .

history

The bell tower as the oldest part of the Nikolaikirche has its origin in a fortress tower built in the 15th century, which was made from the stones of a previous building of today's church that was destroyed at that time. The new church was built on the site after the Thirty Years' War with the support of the Mückenberger rule , to which the village of Bockwitz (Lauchhammer-Mitte) belonged. In 1720 the tower was raised to 48 meters.

In the tower hall there is a stone image of a kneeling unknown knight leaning on a battle ax from the 16th century with the coat of arms of the noble von Schleinitz family , who lived in Mückenberg until the 18th century.

On the north side of the church there is an accessible crypt extension for Baron Benedicta Margareta von Löwendal (1686–1776), her husband Baron Woldemar von Löwendal (1660–1740) and their four children who died prematurely. Above is a patronage box .

The Nikolaikirche has had its current appearance since around 1790.

The building underwent extensive restoration work from 1987 to 1992 with the support of the city of Lauchhammer and local companies, including the painting of the organ prospect .

War memorial

War memorial

Near the Nikolaikirche is the churchyard of the village of Bockwitz, which has meanwhile been converted into a park, with a war memorial for the Bockwitz victims of the First World War . It consists of a boulder weighing around 110 quintals with the relief of a grieving mother. To the left and right of the stone there are two stone pillars with name boards. The front half of the memorial was originally surrounded by a small fence and the pillars were crowned by crosses.
