Nikolaus Caroli

Nikolaus Caroli († October 3, 1483 in Mainz ) was a Franciscan.

Live and act

Caroli entered the Franciscan order as an ordained priest. Due to his exemplary way of life, shortly after the novitiate he was appointed guardian in Heidelberg . In 1426 he implemented the observant reform there and later in other convents . In the province he was therefore seen as the head of reform. According to the decisions of the Council of Basel, he worked from 1445 to 1450 as custodian and from 1450 to 1455 as the first provincial vicar of the Upper German family of observants. In addition, he introduced the observance for the Upper German Poor Clares .
