Nicholas Franke

Nikolaus Franke (* 1966 ) is a German business economist and professor at the Vienna University of Economics and Business .

At the Vienna University of Economics and Business, he has been head of the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation since 2001 . Franke's main research interests are in the areas of open and user innovation. He examines how companies can benefit from the creativity of users as well as the potential for success, the functionality and the effects of specific methods such as toolkits for user innovation and design, crowdsourcing and lead user studies.

His scientific publications have received various international prizes (including numerous Best Paper Awards) and in high-ranking journals such as Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice , Information System Research, Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Journal of Marketing , Management Science , Organization Science and Research Policy published. In 2003 he was awarded the Cardinal Innitzer Prize for Social and Economic Sciences . Since 2016 he has worked as field editor for one of the world's leading specialist journals for entrepreneurship, the Journal of Business Venturing .

In addition to heading the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Franke has numerous other functions at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, e.g. B. is academic director of the TU / WU Professional MBA in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, head of the User Innovation Research Initiative Vienna, founder of the Entrepreneurship Center Network, founder and academic director of the WU start-up center and a member of the Research Institute for Family Businesses, the Senate of WU and the WU research commission.

Nikolaus Franke is a member of various international research associations such as B. the Association of University Teachers for Business Administration . He is also the scientific director of TOP 100, the leading innovation competition for SMEs in Germany. In addition to his academic work, Franke has worked with numerous practice partners (start-ups, SMEs, multinationals, non-profit organizations, etc.).
