Nikolaus Geiler
Nikolaus "Nik" Geiler (born August 11, 1952 ) is a German biologist , chemist , limnologist and hydrologist .
Career
Geiler studied biology at the University of Freiburg with a major: limnology and a minor a. a .: hydrology. Since 1981 he has been working as a freelancer in the field of water management and water policy. From 1991 he was a lecturer for water law at the chair for hydrology at the University of Freiburg.
activities
Since the 1970s, Geiler has been campaigning for more civic participation in the processes and decisions of water management.
In the 1980s he dealt intensively with keeping the Rhine clean .
In 1981 Geiler began his work in the working group on water ( AK Wasser ) in the Federal Association of Citizens' Initiatives Environmental Protection (BBU) e. V. and the publication of the BBU-WASSER-RUNDBRIEF , which reports on the happenings in the national and international water protection policy and in the water management. More than 1000 issues of this newsletter have appeared so far.
Awards
- 1986: 1st prize from the IKEA Foundation for outstanding commitment to water conservation - endowed with 10,000 DM
- 1998: 1st prize of the Gerolsteiner Foundation "Blue Planet - Prize for Active Water Protection" for "outstanding commitment" and the "exemplary character" of water protection activities - endowed with 10,000 DM.
- In 2017 he was awarded the Wolfgang Staab Nature Conservation Prize of the Schweisfurth Foundation .
