Foundation mandate
The focus of the work is on the creation of a fair, sustainable and responsible agriculture and food industry . The foundation is one of the few non-governmental organizations in Germany that specializes in animal welfare in the protection of so-called farm animals . The foundation promotes awareness of the value of living food - this includes all topics relating to the production, processing and distribution of food, ecological, artisanal production, questions of nutritional justice and ethical, animal-friendly breeding and keeping of agricultural products Animals. Therefore, she feels just as committed to future thinkers as to practitioners and artists from the fields of nutrition , health , agriculture , animal breeding , education and upbringing .
Structure and activities
The board of directors is the agricultural ethicist, journalist and management consultant Franz-Theo Gottwald . Karl Ludwig Schweisfurth's daughter Anne is the foundation's deputy chairman of the board of trustees.
From 1998 to 2002 she awarded the Schweisfurth Research Prize for Ecological Economy in cooperation with the Association for Ecological Economy . The foundation annually awards the organic food industry research prize, which awards bachelor, master and doctoral theses that offer ideas and approaches to sustainability issues in the organic food sector. The foundation has been awarding the Wolfgang Staab Nature Conservation Prize since 2015 for special achievements in favor of the sustainable development of river and floodplain landscapes. The prize is awarded annually and is endowed with 20,000 euros.
The foundation is also the sponsor of the Animal Welfare on the Plate project, which awards catering establishments, conference venues and communal catering with an animal welfare chef's hat that pay attention to the animal-friendly, ecological origin of ingredients of animal origin.
In 2002, the founders Karl Ludwig Schweisfurth, Franz-Theo Gottwald and Meinolf Dierkes wrote the model of agricultural and food culture, which also serves as the conceptual background for the foundation's work. Board member Franz-Theo Gottwald was also involved in developing the models for the Bavarian butcher and bakery trade. The foundation publishes the book series Agricultural Culture in the 21st Century , which is published by Metropolis-Verlag .
In 2013 the foundation received the Munich Environment Prize . In 2012, the foundation was recognized for its animal welfare on the plate project as a selected location in the " Germany - Land of Ideas " competition. In addition, the “Animal Welfare on the Plate” project was awarded the “Workshop N Project” seal of quality in 2011, 2012 and 2015 by the German Council for Sustainable Development .
