Life

Nikolaus Hermann von Beverförde zu Stockum was born as the son of Jobst Heidenreich von Beverförde zu Stockum (1665–1726, colonel on horseback) and his wife Margarethe Theodora von Ketteler zu Bollen († 1748). He studied from 1726 to 1731 at the Collegium Germanicum in Rome . In 1732 he received a Dompräbende in Osnabrück through papal approval . Since Nikolaus had to take over the family estates from his late brother Engelbert Bernhard Christian, he renounced the benefice in 1734 in favor of his brother Christoph Friedrich . In 1735 he married Maria Klara Anna von Raesfeld zu Hameren († January 24, 1789, daughter of Johann Kaspar von Raesfeld and Maria Anna von der Recke zu Heessen). He became Privy Councilor (1750), substitute Droste in the Sassenberg office and, in 1780, as a representative of the knighthood, Deputy of the Landscape Penny Chamber .
