His parents were the electoral secret council Rudolf von Sparr († 1639) and Anna Catharina von Parthenheim .

In 1664 he became a stripper of the Teutonic Order in Mergentheim. In 1670 he became a visitor and Teutonic order commander at Horneck Castle . From 1671 to 1679 he was the Landkomtur of Thuringia. From 1679 to ???? he was Komtur in Heilbronn.

In the pilgrimage church of Maria Birnbaum there is a coat of arms for Nikolaus von Sparr with the year 1672.
