The Nikolauskirche (Polish. Kościół św. Mikołaja ) in Kraków is a Catholic Baroque church at ul. Mikołaja Kopernika 9 in the Wesoła district .

history

On the trade route from Krakow to Kiev, a Romanesque building was built in the then Krakow suburb of Wesoła in the 11th century as a Benedictine church of the Tyniec Abbey , which reflects the bull of Pope Gregory IX. confirmed by 1229. From the 14th century it also served as the parish church of Wesoła. Around 1400 the Romanesque building was replaced by a Gothic one. In 1467 it was bequeathed to the Kraków Academy by the Benedictines . During the Swedish Flood , the church, like many churches in the Krakow suburbs outside the city walls, was badly damaged. The reconstruction took place from 1677 to 1684 in the baroque style. At the beginning of the 20th century, the church was renovated under the direction of Aleksander Biborski .

In 1910, Feliks Dzierżyński married Zofia Dzierżyńska in the church . Therefore, after the Second World War, units of the Red Army helped repair war damage.

There are numerous elements and works of art from all building periods in the church.
