Nikos Nissiotis ( Greek Νίκος Νησιώτης ; * May 21, 1924 in Athens ; † August 18, 1986 ) was a Greek Orthodox religious philosopher who sought to promote Orthodoxy in the West as a diplomat and teacher.
Life
Nissiotis studied theology and philosophy in Athens from 1942 to 1947, after the German occupation he turned to Zurich and studied there in 1948/1949 - with Emil Brunner and CG Jung . From there, Nissiotis also accompanied the establishment of the Orthodox Center of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Chambésy near Geneva, also in 1966, of which Damaskinos Papandreou became director in 1969 . This reported in the International Catholic Journal 1975, 323-330 about the center. From the Greek point of view, it was particularly about the coordination of the many independent and partly controversial Orthodox exile churches in Central and Western Europe under the dignity of the (so-called) Ecumenical Patriarchate . Nissotis' successor in Bossey was the Burgdorf pastor John Mbiti .
