Nile Kham Haeng
Nil Kham Haeng is an archaeological site in the Khao Wong Prachan Valley in Lop Buri Province , central Thailand , about 15 km north of the city of Lop Buri .
Excavation history
The facility was partially destroyed and extends over an area of around 3 hectares . Traces of human activity can be found at a depth of more than six meters, although two phases can be distinguished.
Finds
Nil Kham Haeng is a site of the Copper Age , which is already evident in the oldest layer. There are also facilities for pottery production, which are similar to phase 2 in Non Pa Wai and with the help of radiocarbon dating to 1300 to 900 BC. To be dated.
In the second, more recent location (dated from around 900 to 380 BC) there are many thin layers of ash and metal slag. Weiss (1992) suspects that these are remnants of metalwork during the dry season that were relocated during the monsoons .
Around 700 BC There are signs of change in Nil Kham Haeng. Fourteen burials were secured, most of them facing north-south. A dead man was laid with his head on a copper vein and received three clay jugs as grave goods. A number of bracelets made of copper and iron have been found, the first time iron was used for decorative purposes here. After this time, production in Nil Kham Haeng appears to have expanded dramatically. Most of the processed copper contained a high amount of arsenic , but there are also two pieces with a 10 percent tin content . They are probably imported goods as they do not correspond to the local smelting method.
