Nile Yalter

Nil Yalter (* 1938 in Cairo , Egypt ) is a Turkish graphic artist, photographer, painter and installation artist.

life and work

Yalter lived in Cairo until she was four, then in Istanbul . There she received her training at Robert College , traveled from 1956 to 1958 as a pantomime artist to Iran, Pakistan and India and worked for theater companies as a set and costume designer in 1963 and 1964. In 1963 she took part in the 3rd Paris Biennale and moved to Paris in 1965. She took part in the French revolutionary movements of the late 1960s and played a pioneering role in France as a member of Collectif Femmes / Art. From 1980 to 1995 she worked at the Sorbonne University. With the advent of digital technologies, she used three-dimensional animation techniques and electronic sound processing in her work. In 2018 she was awarded the outstanding merit prize of the Prix AWARE by the Archive of Women Artists, Research and Exhibition (AWARE) for dealing with questions of feminism and migration. Yalter's works can be found in the permanent collections of Tate Modern , the Ludwig Museum in Cologne, the Deutsche Telekom art collection, Istanbul Modern , Center Georges-Pompidou , Fonds National Art Contemporain.
