Nile Basin Initiative

The Nile Basin Initiative (Engl. For Nile Basin Initiative , shortly NBI ) in 1999 to regional cooperation between the countries in the catchment area of the Nile launched. The aim is the long-term community development and management of the river's water resources. A noticeable benefit for everyone within the catchment area should be achieved through increased cooperation and a basis for mutual trust created.

The NBI is divided into a Council of Ministers (Nile-COM) as the highest body of the NBI, which is supported by the Technical Advisory Board (Nile-TAC). The advisory board consists of two officials from each member country. There is also a secretariat (Nile-SEC) located in Entebbe , Uganda.
