Nils Alstrup Dahl

Nils Alstrup Dahl (born June 25, 1911 in Oslo ; † July 2, 2001 there ) was a Norwegian Protestant theologian who dealt in particular with the New Testament .

Life

Dahl studied Protestant theology between 1929 and 1934 and dealt in his studies and research in particular with the New Testament and worked in particular on the concept of ecclesiology in the New Testament. In 1941 he completed his studies with The People of God: an investigation into the ecclesiastical consciousness of early Christianity and with this work also created his main work, which appeared in 1963 in the second, unchanged edition.

In 1946 he was appointed professor of Protestant theology at the University of Oslo . He was also the editor of Norske Kirkeblad between 1954 and 1957 and was appointed professor at Yale University in 1965 .

Another focus of his research was Paul's letter to the Ephesians , for which he wrote two specialist books with the titles Brief Interpretation of the Letter to the Ephesians (1965) and Studies in Ephesians: Introduction Questions, Text- and Edition-Critical Issues, Interpretation of Texts and Themes (2000).

His other publications include Studies in Paul: Theology for the Early Christian Mission (1977) and Jesus the Christ: The Historical Origins of Christological Doctrine (Proclamation Commentaries) (1991).
