Nils Gabriel Sefström (born June 2, 1787 in Ilsbo Socken , † November 30, 1845 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish chemist and mineralogist who (re) discovered the element vanadium at Taberg in 1831 after it had already been discovered by Andrés Manuel del Río in a Mexican lead ore was found.

Life

Sefström was a student of Jöns Jakob Berzelius . From 1820 to 1839 he taught at the Falun Mountain School . Afterwards he worked as laboratory head of the royal mountain college in Stockholm. In 1841 he was accepted as a corresponding member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences .
