The Nilsen Plateau is a rugged, ice-covered plateau of up to 3940 m in the Queen Maud Mountains in the Antarctic Ross Dependency . With an extension of about 48 km in length and between 2 and 20 km in width, the plateau includes the Fram Mesa and borders the Scott and Amundsen glaciers .
It was discovered in November 1911 by the five-person South Pole group around Roald Amundsen as part of his Antarctic expedition (1910–1912). Amundsen named it after Thorvald Nilsen (1881-1940), captain of the Fram on this expedition.
