The Niouc Bridge , French Pont de Niouc or Pont de l'Araignée (German Spider Bridge), crosses the Navisence river between the hamlet of Niouc ( Saint-Luc VS ) and the village of Vercorin in the canton of Valais , Switzerland .

The Niouc Bridge was built to supply water to the village of Briey ( Chalais VS ) and consists of a water pipe and a footbridge. The height of the suspension bridge is 190 m, the span 200 m or 220 m. It is located in a rocky gorge at around 880 to 900  m above sea level. M. The Niouc Bridge was the highest bridge in the world between 1922 and 1929 and was the highest bridge in Switzerland until summer 2017 .

In 1996 the bridge was refurbished and renovated. Before that, it had been closed to the public for years because the wooden floor of the bridge was rotten and the metal parts had become rusty.

Varia

In the summer months, bungee jumping is offered on the Niouc Bridge . Because of its structure, the network of metal cables , the bridge is also known as the Pont de l'Araignée "Spider Bridge ". The artist Berthod painted a huge spider on a rock wall next to the bridge.
