Nivales climate

Under nivalem air (of lat. Nivalis , snowy ') is understood in the climatology when precipitates mainly as snow fall, with more snow falling as melts. This is why glaciation occurs.

A distinction is made between fully level and seminival climatic zones .

In fully level climatic zones, the entire precipitation falls as snow, while in a seminival climatic zone the precipitation falls in liquid form ( rain ) for at least a short time each year .

A normal climate prevails on the polar ice caps and in the high mountain regions of the world. This creates permanent snow and glacier fields .
