Nizampatnam ( Telugu : నిజాంపట్నం Nijāmpaṭnam [ nidʒaːmˈpʌʈnʌm ] also Petapolly, Pettipolle ) is an Indian port city in the Guntur district of the state of Andhra Pradesh .
It is located in the delta of the Krishna River . The first trading post of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) was located here on the Coromandel coast .
The city is only a short distance from the sea, which means that drinking water is often polluted by seawater.
history
In 1608 the Dutch established a trading post here. On August 26, 1611, British traders followed with the ship Globe under Captain Antony Hippon. They established a permanent base here from 1621, which was abandoned again in 1657. The Dutch left the city in 1688, a few years later, in 1697, the English returned. From 1753 it belonged to French India , but in 1765 it was again under the control of the British East India Company .
