No. 5, 1948 is a painting by the American artist Jackson Pollock . With a reported purchase price of $ 140 million, it has long been considered the most expensive painting of all time. The painting Salvator Mundi by Leonardo da Vinci, which hassold for 450.3 million US dollars, is nowthe front runner on the art market.
The picture was painted in the style of Action Painting , a direction of Abstract Expressionism , on a fibreboard and measures 243.8 × 121.9 centimeters. Mostly brown and yellow paint was dripped and splashed on the plate.

The painting, which was on display in the Museum of Modern Art before David Geffen's ownership , is now in private hands. According to a November 2, 2006 report in the New York Times , the painting was sold to a Mexican by then owner David Geffen in a private transaction for $ 140 million. The entrepreneur David Martínez is accepted as the buyer . However, Martinez's lawyers denied that Martinez owned the painting or had an option to purchase it.
