No IQ is a German rock band from Essen in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The band No IQ served various genres over the years until they finally got down to rock , to which they have remained true to this day. The band's varied repertoire includes soulful ballads, powerful hard rock and catchy songs as well as a comprehensive “half-plugged” program in which the songs were rearranged with increased use of acoustic instruments and sounds.

history

The beginnings (1996-2006)

No IQ was founded by Frank Kimpel in 1996. Inspired by the time, the young musicians initially played mainly songs from other bands as a cover band, until over time they wrote more and more of their own songs.

Everything Twice (2006-2009)

Right from the start, the band has been very committed to promoting young musicians in their hometown of Essen. As a co-supporter of the annual “Rock in der Arena” festival (2006-2010) in Essen and in close cooperation with the music development association “Rockett eV”, No IQ has not only created an opportunity for itself but also for numerous other young rock bands to present their music to the public showcase.

After several demo recordings and singles, the band presented their first full album Everything Twice in 2006 . The result of the creative work of everyone involved came about in the course of the preparations for the Emergenza Music Festival, in which the band took part in 2006 and took 1st place in all preliminary rounds. No IQ reached 15th place in the NRW finals of the festival.

Although, in contrast to today's productions, this album is even more oriented towards punk, the songs on it are very catchy and still part of the band's current live sets. Everything Twice is the processing of the personal experiences and fates of the band members. "Essentially," says bandleader Frank Kimpel, "that you should try to enjoy life and the positive experiences twice before they are over". The title song of the album is on the sampler Made in Essen vol. 14 published.

We Give No Rest (2009-2012)

In 2009 Patrick Quadt left the band first, then Markus Buschhoff in 2010. Frank Kimpel and Gerrit Quadt first brought the drummer Thomas Theisen, who is well known in the local scene, into the band and played as a trio for some time, constantly on the lookout for new talented musicians. In 2010 No IQ started working with the guitarist Marco “Mo” Serci, who in the late nineties played together with Thomas Theisen and Adrian de Vitt in the Duisburg formation “Murphys Law”.

In the summer of 2011, the band brought in the music producer and keyboardist Adrian de Vitt to support the production of the new album, not least through the acquaintance of some members from previous projects. After a few trial sessions he was accepted as a new member of the band. No IQ started working on the new album back in 2008. Most of the recording sessions were carried out with Partick Quadt and Markus Buschhoff. After they left the band, all those involved decided, including the new members, to bring this project to an end anyway. The result is a joint effort that emphasizes the influences of each individual. The album is titled We Give No Rest and was released in fall 2012. No IQ presents itself more mature, adult and rockier on this release. The album got its special touch through the more or less coincidental collaboration with Pat Steward, the Canadian drummer of The Odds or Bryan Adams . When approached via a social network, Pat initially mistook Frank for someone he actually knew. After clarifying the situation and a few funny e-mails, it was decided without further ado to start a "remote playing" attempt. The results are reflected in three bonus tracks in which Pat did a wonderful job on the drums in addition to his actual job.

New ways (2012-2017)

In the following years No IQ concentrated more on expanding its repertoire and developing its sound. In 2013, the band was presented on stage on a smaller scale with a “half-plugged” program. For the program, the majority of their songs have been rearranged and enhanced with acoustic instruments and sounds.

The anniversary year 2016 brought the band two losses. In addition to Thomas Theisen's departure, Marco Serci has also left the band. In early 2017, the band announced the return of former drummer Patrick Quadt.

During this time, some of the band's musicians have started various side-kick projects, ranging from pop (Andre Fuckert & Frank Kimpel - "Brazil, we're coming") to ambient / new age projects (Adrian de Vitt - "#seele") cover different genres. The musicians of No IQ are currently preparing songs for a new album, the release of which is planned for 2018.
