Nodir-Devonbegi-Chanaqa

The Nodir-Devonbegi-Chanaqa is a Chanaqa in the Uzbek city of Buxoro .

location

The Chanaqa is located in the historic center of Buxoro and is part of the Labi Hovuz building ensemble . It is located directly to the west of the water basin and is opposed to the Nodir Devonbegi Madrasa in the Kosch principle . It is the building of the ensemble that is closest to the water basin, so that its facade is reflected on the surface of the water. The Mag'oki Attori Mosque is located about 100 meters west of the Chanaqa .

history

The Nodir-Devonbegi-Chanaqa was created in 1620 by Nodir Devonbegi , the uncle and grand vizier of Imam Quli Khan , and is named after him. It was built at the same time as the central water basin and served as a place to live and gather for the dervishes and as a hostel for the pilgrims.

The Chanaqa was rebuilt several times and restored from 1914-16 under Alim Khan , the last emir of the Emirate of Bukhara , by Syed Olimxon.

description

The building has a rectangular floor plan with a floor area of 25 × 35 meters. The Pischtak , which protrudes over the edge of the roof, with the ogival entrance iwan is covered with colored patterns. The three-quarter-round corner towers that conclude with the roof edge are moved close to the Pischtak, so that the façade looks much narrower than that of the other buildings in the ensemble.

A large dome rises above the cross-shaped main hall. In the domed main hall there are niches that are closed off with muqarnas . In the corners of the building there are living cells for the dervishes and pilgrims on two floors.

Historical photos and paintings and a model of the city of Buxoro are on display in the Chanaqa.
