Noltemeyer Bridge
The Noltemeyer Bridge (also: Podbielski Bridge) is a bridge over the Mittelland Canal (MLK) in Hanover . It was built in its present form between 1997 and 2000. The busy Podbielskistraße crosses the Mittelland Canal in four lanes on this bridge. In addition, there are two tracks of the Hanover Stadtbahn with a station on the bridge. In the numbering of the MLK bridges, this bridge has the number 237.
history
When the Mittelland Canal was built in 1914, the original bridge was built with a span of 52.82 m and a total width of 18.20 m. The name is derived from the restaurant Haus Noltemeyer and thus from its first operator August Noltemeyer .
As part of the expansion of the Mittelland Canal for large motor goods ships , all bridges of the Mittelland Canal were renewed or adapted in the 1990s. During the construction period from August 1997 to March 2000, the shell of the new bridge was built next to the old bridge and then moved to its final position in the night from August 7, 1999 to August 8. It was fully opened to traffic in April 2000. The construction costs amounted to DM 22.4 million.
Local transport
A special feature of the new Noltemeyer Bridge is the tram stop , which has been relocated directly to the new bridge. It was previously called "Buchholz" and was divided into two different stops, as the tram routes 3/7 and 9 in the northeast direction separate behind the bridge. The new stop with the name Noltemeyerbrücke now enables direct transfers without a long walk and waiting for any of the lines running south-west on the same route to the city center. The track runs through the middle of the bridge, with sidewalks and waiting areas for passengers as well as barrier-free access ramps on the sides. This entire area is spanned with an elaborate steel construction, under which glass roofs are attached on part of the area. About 50 meters away there is a bus station with a taxi stand called Noltemeyerbrücke, where (in 2017) three bus lines meet and two have their terminus.
technology
It is a steel bridge with a tied arch and Vierendeel girder and with an orthotropic plate . The span is 78.25 m, the total width 41.45 m and the weight of the steel superstructure is 1650 t. The bridge class is 60/30.
