The “Oroqen nationality community Nomhan ” ( Chinese  南 南 鄂伦春 民族乡 , Pinyin Nánmù Èlúnchūn Mínzú Xiāng ) is located in the independent city of Zalantun , which belongs to the administrative area of the independent city of Hulun Buir in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China . Nomhan has an area of 2160.53 km² and 16,761 inhabitants (end of 2006). Nomhan is one of the rare administrative units of the People's Republic of China that was established before the state was founded (October 1, 1949). The nationality community was founded on September 15, 1949, but the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region was proclaimed on May 1, 1947.

The nationality community is located on the eastern slope of the Great Hinggan Mountains and lives mainly from forestry. The mountain taiga Nomhans is also rich in Isubra deer , roe deer , wild boar , otters , collar bears , mountain hares , squirrels , sable , musk deer , Siberian fire weasels and hazel grouse . Ecotourism is also of growing importance for Nomhan's economic life .

Oroqen

The community is one of the traditional settlement areas of the northern Tungusian hunter people, the Oroqen , who today only make up a small minority (less than 200 people) of the population and - legally defined - the mayor Nomhans. On December 9, 2009, the “Oroqenian Folklore Museum Nomhan” (南 木 鄂伦春 民俗 博物馆) was founded.
