The Great Hinggan Mountains (also Great Chingan , Chinese  大興安嶺  /  大兴安岭 , Pinyin Dà Xīng'ān Lǐng ) extend over approximately 1400 km in northeast Inner Mongolia .

The ridge begins at the northernmost point of China in the designated pursuant to this mountain administrative region , more precisely in Mohe in the province of Heilongjiang . The ridge continues southwest through the administrative areas of the city of Hulun Buir , the Hinggan Bund and the city of Tongliao and extends to the Xar Moron River near Chifeng .

The Ôkôldûi with 1530  m in the north and the Termo with 1725  m in the south are among the highest peaks . With 1.24 billion cubic meters of wood reserves, the Great Hinggan is one of the most important forestry areas in China. In the (mountain) taiga that dominates the northern part of the Great Hinggan, brown bears and lynxes , elk , isubra deer and reindeer , Siberian fire weasel and sable , mountain hare , hazel grouse and black grouse can be found. The very rare scaled saw also breeds here . The northern half of the Great Hinggan slopes gently to the west and merges into the livestock grasslands of the Hulun Buir plateau.

The northern foothills of the Great and Small Hinggan Mountains meet between Heihe and Huma in Heilongjiang Province .
