Nora Hansel
Nora Hansel (born August 30, 1985 in Löbau ) is a German triathlete . She is world champion (2014) and three-time European champion (2014, 2015, 2016) in the paratriathlon. Because of her ataxia and hemiparesis, Hansel competes in national and international competitions in class PTS3 (moderate disability).
Career
Hansel started cross-country skiing at the age of ten and switched to biathlon three years later .
At the end of the 1990s she was one of the most successful young biathletes in Saxony , but had to give up competitive sport due to the diagnosis of a brain tumor and the consequences of the surgery. Despite a hemiparesis , ataxia and imbalance on the right side, Hansel was able to return to competitive sports thanks to intensive rehabilitation in 2011 - seven years after the tumor had been removed.
