Steen made his debut in the Scandinavian Cup in Sjusjøen in January 2007 , where he finished 182nd over 10 km freestyle. He achieved his first points and top ten placement in December 2009 with eighth place in the sprint in Vuokatti . In February 2010, Steen was fourth in the 15 km freestyle pursuit in Jõulumäe . A month later he started twice in sprints in the World Cup , but missed the points as 35th in Drammen and 59th in Oslo . In February 2011, Steen achieved his first podium finish in the Scandinavian Cup with third place in the sprint in Madona . Shortly afterwards he started again in the World Cup in Drammen, where he scored his first World Cup points with 21st place in the sprint. In February 2012, Steen achieved another top ten placement in the Scandinavian Cup with ninth place in the sprint in Nes . A month later, he entered the World Cup for the fourth time, including the third time in Drammen, and achieved his second place in points with 18th place. At his next World Cup participation in March 2015 in Drammen and in December 2015 in Davos , Steen missed the points as 31st and 34th of the sprint. In January 2016 he finished second in the Scandinavian Cup sprint in Östersund . At the end of the 2015/16 season, he took sixth place in the Scandinavian Cup in the mini tour in Otepää and seventh place in the overall standings.
