Norbert Frensch

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Norbert Frensch (* 1960 in Mainz ) is a German painter .

Life

Frensch studied from 1980 to 1986 at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg .

In his conceptual work series, the artist reflects on the phenomena of perception - between visibility and imagination - using the means of painting.

The “black” pictures, which have been produced since the early 1990s, have made Frensch's work known and have been shown in several solo exhibitions in museums. In their sensual presence, the “blacks” take up the genre of the still life and vary it with the painterly principle of “Clairobscur” in an apparently endless sequence.

The series der Grauen and KTL , which have been created since 2004, change the perspective and alternate between near and far view, painterly structure and atmospheric references to the landscape. Here, too, the painter explores the possible forms of perception and visibility up to their visual limits.

Norbert Frensch lives and works in Frankfurt am Main .
