Norbert Herzig
Norbert Herzig (* 1945 ) is emeritus director of the seminar for general business administration and business taxation at the University of Cologne and a member of the supervisory board of the auditing company PricewaterhouseCoopers Deutschland AG.
Education and professional career
After completing a commercial apprenticeship, Herzig studied business administration in Cologne. In 1975 he received his doctorate there with a dissertation on the subject of the theoretical principles of operational maintenance . He completed his habilitation on the subject of ending an entrepreneurial commitment as a problem of tax planning, also in Cologne. He then passed the tax advisor and auditor exams. From 1984 to 1991 he was a university professor at RWTH Aachen . From 1991 to 2013, Herzig held the chair for general business administration and business taxation at the University of Cologne and director of the tax seminar at the University of Cologne. Michael Overesch succeeded him in the 2013 summer semester . In 2012, Herzig received an honorary doctorate from the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg. Herzig is now the Of Counsel at Flick Gocke Schaumburg in Bonn.
More functions
Herzig was chairman of the tax consultant institute from 1989 to 2005 and is now honorary chairman. In addition, he has been a member of the board of the Schmalenbach-Gesellschaft für Betriebswirtschaft eV since 2003 and of the tax committee of the Institut der Wirtschaftsprüfer in Deutschland eV since 1992 as well as head of the deferred taxes working group at the German Accounting Standards Committee .
Since 1999, Herzig has been a member of the supervisory board of PwC Deutsche Revision AG and the faculty of the Postgraduate International Tax Law course at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and the International Tax Institute of the University of Hamburg .
He is co-editor of the Steuerberater-Jahrbuch and the journal Steuer und Wirtschaft as well as a technical advisor to the journal Die Wirtschaftsprüfung .
Herzig is the author of numerous publications, particularly on corporate taxation issues.
