Norbert Michel Tiendrébéogo

Norbert Michel Tiendrébéogo (born September 28, 1955 in Ouagadougou ) is a politician from Burkina Faso ( Upper Volta until 1984 ). He is the founder and party president of the socialist- Sankarist party FFS and was a member of the National Assembly from 2007 to 2012 .

Career

The trained business economist ( DES en Banque et finances des CNAM in Paris) has been working for the Burkinabe bank Société Générale de Banque du Burkina (SGBB) since 1986 , where he has been Vice Director responsible for the finance and trade division since 2005. He became politically active during the Sankarist revolution. First he was a delegate of the Revolutionary Committee ( Comité de Défense de la révolution ) in a district of Ouagadougou, later he occupied other, increasingly influential posts within the revolutionary party apparatus. After the constitutional revision of 1991, which reintroduced the freedom of association and party freedom, he was initially active in various Sankarist groups until he founded the FFS in 1996. From 1996 to 1998 he was general secretary of the party, then its president.

In 2003, Tiendrébéogo was arrested along with 13 other people on suspicion of preparing a coup against the Compaorés government . He ended up in prison for six months.

In 2005 he stood as a candidate for the office of president, in which he reached seventh place with 1.61% of the vote. He was more successful for it in the parliamentary elections in 2007; he made the leap into the National Assembly.

Tiendrébéogo is married and has three children.
