Norbert Nebes

Norbert Nebes (born February 6, 1955 in Munich ) is a German Semitist . He has been C4 professor for Semitic Philology and Islamic Studies at the University of Jena since 1994 . He does research on ancient South Arabia.

Life

From 1974 to 1982 Nebes studied Classical Philology , Assyriology , Philology of the Christian Orient and Semitic Studies at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . In 1982 he received his doctorate in Semitic studies under Adolf Denz in Munich and completed his habilitation in Semitic studies in 1989 at the Philipps University of Marburg . Since 1990 he has participated as an excavation philologist in the expeditions of the German Archaeological Institute (DAI) in Yemen ( Ma'rib , Sirwah , Jebel al-Awd ) and since 2008 in the excavations of the DAI in Tigray (Wuqro, Yeha). Since 2008 he has been a full member of the Academy of Sciences and Literature Mainz .
