Norbert Schlagheck

Norbert Schlagheck (* 1925 in Wegberg-Beeck , Niederrhein , † 2002 in Grafrath near Munich ) was a German designer .

Life

From 1948 Norbert Schlagheck studied "Industrial Design" at the Folkwang School of Design in the city of Essen (today: Folkwang University of the Arts ). He was previously trained as a locksmith, as a belt maker (tinsmith) and as a blacksmith.

From 1954–1967 he worked as a designer at Siemens AG. During this time he was jointly responsible for setting up a functional design department and head of the household appliances design group. In 1961 he received the scholarship and the prize of the cultural group in the Federal Association of German Industry. In 1967 he founded Schlagheck & Schultes Design GmbH with Herbert H. Schultes.

1967–1970 he was head of the industrial design department at the Cologne factory schools , in 1972 he became professor for industrial design at the Munich University of Applied Sciences - at both institutes he played a key role in the development of the courses. This was followed by activities as a juror for the “Danner Prize” of the city of Munich, the federal prize “Gute Form” and for the state prize for young designers from the Bavarian Minister for Economics and Transport. 1984 Founding of his own precision engineering workshops, followed by expansion in the field of classic design model making in 1989.

In 1996 the companies "Schlagheck Design" and "Schlagheck & Partner Modell- und Formenbau GmbH Designwerkstätten" merged to form today's Schlagheck Design GmbH, based in Oberhaching near Munich. At the same time, Norbert Schlagheck transferred management to his son Julian Schlagheck. From 1997 to 2001 he continued to work as a freelance designer and was a member of the jury for the award of the Bavarian State Prize.
