Norbert Zieling

Norbert Zieling (* 1956) is a German archaeologist. He is head of the Department of Soil Monument Preservation and deputy head of the LVR Archaeological Park in Xanten (APX).

Career

Zieling studied prehistory and early history , classical archeology and anthropology at the Ruhr University Bochum from 1975 to 1985 , where he received his doctorate in 1985 with an extensive thesis on Germanic shields of the late Latène and the Roman imperial era in free Germania .

Between 1985 and 1987 he was excavation manager at the Museum for Art and Cultural History in Dortmund.

Since 1988 he has been responsible for archaeological research in Colonia Ulpia Traiana and its ancient port as the head of archaeological conservation at the APX .
