history

The history of the Stavropol State University goes back to the Agropedagogical Institute , which was founded in 1930. Two years later it was renamed the State Pedagogical Institute , and in 1993 it was upgraded to a university. However, this existed as an independent institution for only three years. In 1996 it was merged with the local branch of the Moscow State Legal Academy , and the Stavropol State University was established.

On June 2, 1971, the Stavropol Polytechnic Institute was founded, from which the State Technical University emerged in 1994. Five years later, in 1999, it became the North Caucasian State Technical University. The North Caucasian Technical University emerged in 1999 from the already existing State Technical University.

Pyatigorsk State Humanitarian and Technological University was established in 1999 by a decree of the President of the Government of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin .

The North Caucasian Federal University was founded in February 2012. It goes back to a decree of Putin of July 2011 that required other educational institutions to join the North Caucasian State Technical University. In May 2012, the procedure for the accession of the state universities in Stavropol and Pyatigorsk to the NKFU began.
