Nordic Capital is a Swedish private equity company . The company manages private equity funds that invest in companies to develop them through operational improvements and transformative growth. The focus is on medium and large companies in the Nordic countries and Northern Europe.

Nordic Capital invests across a variety of industries with a particular focus on healthcare. Other core sectors include technology & payment systems, financial services, industrial goods and services, and consumer goods.

Since it was founded in 1989, Nordic Capital has made more than 105 investments worth 14 billion euros. The latest fund is "Nordic Capital Fund IX" with 4.3 billion euros in committed capital, which comes mainly from international institutional investors such as pension funds.

Presence in the DACH region

The DACH region is one of the most important markets for Nordic Capital. The company has been represented here with an office in Frankfurt am Main since 2008. With currently seven portfolio companies based in the DACH region, Nordic Capital is one of the most active investors in this country, especially in the health sector. Nordic Capital has invested around 3 billion euros in 10 companies in the region.

In addition, Nordic Capital holds shares in companies that are not based in the DACH region, but have a strong presence there, including European Dental Group BV and eResearchTechnology Inc. (ERT).

Fund and vehicle

A large number of institutional investors, including public and private pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, financial institutions, foundations and family businesses, participate in Nordic Capital's funds.

In April 2018, Nordic Capital-Fonds VII completed the transfer of nine unlisted portfolio companies to the advanced investment vehicle "Nordic Capital CV1".

  • Bambora, payment company. Built on a platform acquired in 2014; Sold to Ingenico in 2017.
  • Capio, international clinic group. Acquired in 2006; Listed on the stock exchange in 2015; Sale of the last shares in 2017.
  • Thule, leisure and outdoor outfitter. Acquired in 2007; Listed on the stock exchange in 2014; Sale of the last shares in 2016.
  • Permobil, manufacturer of electric wheelchairs. Acquired in 2006; Sold to an investor in 2013.
  • Nycomed, drug manufacturer. In Nordic Capital's portfolio between 1999 and 2002; new acquisition in 2005; In 2006, Nordic Capital supported Nycomed's acquisition of Altana Pharma for more than 4 billion euros; Sale of Nycomed to Takeda in 2011. [4]
