The NORTHWEST Handelsaktiengesellschaft based in Dortmund is a purchasing and marketing cooperative sector for medium-sized merchants.
The company is active in the fields of building technology, steel, tools, industrial supplies and building hardware and components. Northwest accepts as part of the central settlement the Delkredere -Liability to suppliers for the liabilities of its port houses.
Nordwest Handel AG was founded in Bremen in 1919 as a purchasing association Nordwest GmbH . In 1945 it moved from Bremen to Hagen as Nordwest Eisen- und Metallwaren eGmbH . In 1992, Nordwest Eisen- und Metallwaren eG was renamed a stock corporation with registered shares with restricted transferability . After de-negotiation in 1998, the company was listed on the Düsseldorf Stock Exchange in 1999 .
In 2005 the in-house warehouse was relocated from Northwest to the central warehouse of Rhenus SE & Co. KG in Giessen. In 2011 the high-bay warehouse opened in 1974 at the headquarters was demolished.
In 2014, a business volume of EUR 2,030.4 million was achieved after EUR 1,935.0 million in the previous year. The business volume includes sales from the central settlement, third-party and warehouse business.
At the end of June 2013 it was announced that the company would give up its headquarters in Hagen in the third quarter of 2016 and move to Dortmund in the Phoenix-West area . The move was completed on September 19, 2016.
The property in Hagen-Haspe , which has been in use since 1945, was sold to DB Schenker in January 2016 .
In the 1980s, the buildings in Hagen-Haspe were extensively modernized.
