Location and surroundings

The eastern Praxmarerkarspitze and the western Praxmarerkarspitze a few meters higher are located directly next to each other in the Gleirsch-Halltal chain . This mountain range is part of the Karwendel and is known for its rugged peaks and fragile rock. The 2470  m above sea level are in the immediate vicinity . A. high Jägerkarlspitze (to the west) and the 2580  m above sea level. A. high Kaskarspitze (to the east). In a northerly direction, the north face of the Praxmarerkar peaks drops steeply into the Hinterautal . In autumn 1901 the two alpinists Otto Melzer and Emil Spötl had an accident there. Their attempt to climb the first ascent ended in tragedy when Spötl fell on a wall and Melzer could no longer escape the wall alone. He died on the spot, tied to a hook. The wall has been called Melzerwand ever since .

ways

The normal route branches off a few meters below the Pfeishütte from the forest path and first leads over the first crossing into the Kaskar . After crossing it, the second crossing (tricky in wet conditions and poor visibility) leads to the more extensive Praxmarerkar . You always follow this to the north, overcoming the first ( level of difficulty I (UIAA) ) and the second climbing point ( level of difficulty II (UIAA) ), from which you finally reach the ridge between the eastern Praxmarerkarspitze and the Kaskarspitze. Following this partly airy ridge, one overcomes the so-called Schedle jump and then the Wolf traverse before reaching the striking Karwendel summit . From the eastern Praxmarerkarspitze you can continue to climb the western Praxmarerkarspitze in about 15 minutes in difficulty level II (UIAA).

Summit cross

Since September 2014, the eastern Praxmarerkarspitze has for the first time also had a summit cross, which was erected by the Catholic association AV Austria Innsbruck in the course of its 150th anniversary and which is considered by connoisseurs to be one of the most beautiful in the Gleirsch-Halltal chain .
