Location and surroundings
The Praxmarerkar peaks are located in the Gleirsch-Halltal chain , a mountain range that runs here in a west-east direction. In the north, steep rock faces drop down to the Hinterau valley . To the south, a striking ridge runs down from the western Praxmarerkarspitze into the Samertal, which separates the Kare Gamskarl in the west and Praxmarerkar in the east. In the west, the ridge extends over a 2618 m above sea level. A. high fore summit, from where another ridge branches off towards the southwest. Further to the west follow the 2470 m above sea level. A. high Jägerkarlspitze and the 2608 m above sea level. A. high Middle Jägerkarspitze , neighboring mountain in the east is the 2580 m above sea level. A. high Kaskarspitze .
ways
The eastern Praxmarerkarspitze can be reached from the Pfeishütte ( 1922 m above sea level ) in difficulty level II (UIAA) in approx. 4 hours. The transition between the western and eastern Praxmarerkarspitze also has difficulty level II and takes about 15 minutes. The further route over the ridge to the Jägerkarlspitze is more difficult with difficulty III.
Further climbs lead over the south ridge to the western Praxmarerkarspitze (II) and over the Gamskarl and the western pre-summit (II). The latter is mainly used as a descent.
history
The Praxmarerkar peaks were first climbed by Hermann von Barth on July 31, 1870 , just one day after his first ascent of the Jägerkar peak. The next day he was able to climb the Kaskarspitze and the Sonntagkarspitze for the first time.
On October 6, 1901, Otto Melzer and Emil Spötl died while attempting the first ascent of the north face of the eastern Praxmarerkarspitze - Spötl fell on a wall, Melzer could not save himself and died tied to a hook. The wall has been called Melzerwand ever since . A memorial on the way to the Sunntigerspitze ( 2321 m above sea level ) reminds of the accident.
