Location and surroundings
The Sonntagkarspitze is located in the Gleirsch-Halltal chain , which continues to the Kaskarspitze in the west and to the Hinteren Bachofenspitze in the east . To the north, 700 meter high cliffs drop down to the Hinterau valley . To the south, the Sonntagkarspitze sends a pronounced ridge that separates the Kare Kaskar in the west and Sonntagkar in the east.
The four municipalities Innsbruck (cadastral municipality Arzl ), Thaur , Absam and Scharnitz meet at the summit .
ways
The normal route to the rarely visited mountain leads from the Pfeishütte ( 1922 m above sea level ) at the head of the Samertal valley to the summit in around 2.5 hours. This ascent has a level of difficulty I (UIAA) and is marked. The easy way from the southeast from the Sonntagkar is technically easier, but more difficult to find and a little longer with 3 hours. For a long time it was considered the normal route.
The transition to the Kaskarspitze has a level of difficulty III and takes about an hour, the Hintere Bachofenspitze can be reached in about 1.5 hours (difficulty II).
First ascent
The Sonntagkarspitze was on 1 August 1870 by Hermann von Barth first climbed , having previously the same day already Kaskarspitze and in the days Jägerkarspitzen and Praxmarerkarspitzen had first climbed. According to other sources, however, he did not reach the Sonntagkarspitze until one day later, on August 2nd.
