Nordyke Marmon & Company was a mill Construction in Indianapolis ( Indiana ).

The company's history begins in 1851 when Nordyke, Ham & Company began manufacturing grinding equipment in a small workshop in Richmond, Indiana . Previously, Ellis Nordyke , a well-known mill builder, had built handcrafted grinding plants in Richmond. Buhr millstones from France were introduced for grinding grain.

In 1858, Addison H. Nordyke and his father Ellison Nordyke teamed up and manufactured flour mills. The company was called E. & AH Nordyke and there was only a small factory building behind Ellis Nordyke's private home. This business continued until 1866; then Daniel W. Marmon joined the company and its name was changed to Nordyke Marmon & Company . Around 1870 the company was an important mill construction company. Amos A. Hallowell joined the company in 1875 and stayed until 1895.

Addison H. Nordyke remained active in the company until 1899 and was then owner and director until 1904. Daniel W. Marmon stayed with the company until his death in 1909.

In 1875 Nordyke Marmon & Company moved to Indianapolis because they found better manufacturing facilities and better transport links there. In 1876 the "Quaker City Works" in West Indianapolis were bought, then to the Indianapolis & Vincennes Railroad and the Belt Railroads . The company continued to grow at this location and became the largest mill builder in the USA.

Nordyke Marmon exported their machines to Canada , Mexico , Central and South America and equipped whole flour, grain, corn, starch and rice mills and supplied elevators. The company manufactured roller mills , pin mills , packaging systems, mixing systems, as well as machines for processing rice, corn and starch and special machines.

The Marmon sons who now ran Nordyke Marmon were not satisfied with the automobiles available in the late 19th and early 20th centuries . So in 1902 they built a luxury car that met their expectations. Howard Marmon founded the Marmon Motor Car Company and built cars of the highest quality and reliability. The mill division was sold to Allis-Chalmers in 1926.
