Norman Brannon

Norman "Doug" Brannon (born April 22, 1961 in Detroit , Michigan ) is an American politician and member of the House of Representatives from South Carolina .

Career

Brannon graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Juris Doctor degree in 2000. He was a member of Landrum City Council from 1991 to 1993 and mayor of the city from 1993 to 1997. In 2010 he was elected with 76.6% of the constituency's vote ( District 38 - Spartanburg County ) was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives. In the Republican primary he prevailed against incumbent Joey Millwood . In 2012 and 2014, Brannon was confirmed as a representative without opposing candidates.

In 2015, he gained international attention when he announced a legislative initiative following the attack in Charleston to have the Confederate flag removed from government buildings and squares.

Private

Brannon has been married since 2004 and has four children.
