The Norodom Ranariddh Party (NRP) was a monarchist party in Cambodia . It was named after Norodom Ranariddh , First Prime Minister of Cambodia from 1993 to 1997 and President of the National Assembly from 1998 to 2006. Ranariddh was from 1992 to 2006 and after his return to the party since January 2015 he has been chairman of the likewise monarchist party FUNCINPEC (French for Front Uni National pour un Cambodge Indépendant, Neutre, Pacifique, et Coopératif ). The NRP pursued national goals and stood in opposition to the authoritarian Prime Minister Hun Sen of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP). The NRP was critical of the strong Vietnamese minority in Cambodia.

Ranariddh founded the party in November 2006 after he was voted out of office as president of FUNCINPEC and a criminal embezzlement suit was brought against him. Ranariddh joined the relatively insignificant Khmer National Front Party (KFP), which was renamed the Norodom Ranariddh Party and elected Ranariddh as its president. He was expelled from parliament.

In March 2007, he fled into exile in Malaysia because he feared a conviction on the embezzlement suit, which was then pronounced in the form of 18 months in prison. Ranariddh then led the party out of exile. In the 2007 local elections, the small party won a surprising number of votes (419,791, 8.11%). In November 2007, Ranariddh proposed the merger of the party with the Sam Rainsy party and the human rights party of Kem Sokha , which they rejected. In the July 2008 general election , the NRP won two seats. After being pardoned by the king, Ranariddh returned to Cambodia in September 2008 and announced his retirement from politics. The party then called itself the Nationalist Party for a while .

In late 2010, NRP and FUNCINPEC leaders asked him to return to politics with the aim of merging the two parties and offering to become president of the merged party. After a year and a half of negotiations, an agreement to this effect collapsed when FUNCINPEC President Nhiek Bun Chhay accused Ranariddh of supporting other opposition parties. Ranariddh then again declared his withdrawal from politics and resigned as president of the NRP. The party was subsequently merged into FUNCINPEC at the end of 2012. Ranariddh returned to FUNCINPEC in January 2015 and was re-elected President.
