from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Prince Norodom Kantol ( Khmer : នរោត្តម កន្តុល; born September 15, 1920 in Phnom Penh , Cambodia ; † 1976 ) was a Cambodian politician of the Sangkum Socialist Community (សង្គមរាស្ត្រនិយម), who was Prime Minister of Cambodia between 1962 and 1966 .

Life

Prince Norodom Kantol was a great-grandson of Norodom I , who was King of Cambodia between 1860 and 1904 . His younger brother was Prince Norodom Virija , who held the post of foreign minister for some time in 1966. He was involved in the Sangkum (សង្គមរាស្ត្រនិយម) Socialist People's Community founded by King Norodom Sihanouk in 1955 .

On October 6, 1962, he took over the post of Prime Minister from Chau Sen Cocsal Chhum and held this office until he was replaced by Lon Nol on October 25, 1966. During this time he took over the office of Foreign Minister in his cabinet between 1962 and 1964 and again from 1965 to 1966. At the same time he held the office of Minister of the Interior between 1965 and 1966. In 1976 Prince Norodom Kantol disappeared and was presumably murdered by the Khmer Rouge .
