Norrlanda fornstuga

Norrlanda Fornstuga is similar to the museum courtyard Petes an open-air museum on the Swedish island of Gotland in the former parish Norrlanda. Norrlanda Fornstuga is called an "Everyday Museum" as it shows everyday life during the 18th century.

founding

The museum was founded by Gustav Larsson (1893–1985), a Gotland poet. In 1924 he bought an old house from Lina in Hörsne, which he had relocated to the location of today's museum. In 1955, his brother John donated the land to a foundation and the brothers took care of the museum.

building

Linastuga is a small wooden house with a gable entrance, consisting of a small anteroom with stairs to the attic and the everyday room. This had a large open fireplace in the east and a wall bed, a so-called curtain bed. In the southern corner there are two small windows close together. This is the place for the table and chairs. All things in the room testify to everyday life on a small self-catering farm in the 18th century.

There are outbuildings around the house, in which devices and tools are shown that were necessary for daily work and could belong to courtyards of this type. These outbuildings come from different places in the parish and its surroundings. Some have been reconstructed using old descriptions. The cattle shed is dated to the 17th century and comes from Dibjers in Hörsne. It represents one of the oldest preserved plank houses on the island. The dry sauna near Bendes in Anga was used by several neighboring families to dry and process linen . Here, malt was also used for beverages. There is also a tool shed, barn and storage , a blacksmith , a Teerbude, a beach bar and a guest cottage. Everything was part of a household at the time. There is also a clumsy stone with sharpening grooves - the so-called sword whetstone.

The museum also includes buildings outside of Norrlanda:

  • There is a beach hut by the sea at Hammars.
  • At Djupän near Hammars there is an old water mill from the 18th century.
  • The Magnsarve windmill rises next to the Norrlanda church and is also maintained by the museum.
